Montgomery County Planning Board and Planning Department announce September 2021 online events

Take a community bike ride through the new Pike District Connector, participate in the Pedestrian Walk Audit Toolkit Training, enjoy the Wheaton Arts Parade, and learn about more ways to get involved!

WHEATON, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Board and the Montgomery County Planning Department, both part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), have announced their September 2021 calendar of online meetings. As we work towards full reopening, the Planning Board invites the public to participate virtually in meetings during the month of September 2021. The Montgomery County Planning Board is scheduled to welcome the public to participate in and attend meetings in person starting in October 2021. A virtual participation option will also continue to be available.

Community members may sign up to testify and provide comments through Microsoft Teams or over the phone to the Board during the meeting on specific agenda items. Written testimony may be submitted in advance of the meeting.

September 1 – The Historic Preservation Commission will hold its meeting online. To testify on an agenda item, sign up no later than 9 a.m. the day before the hearing. Consult the HPC meeting webpage for agenda information.

September 9 – The Planning Board will hold its meeting online. During the meeting, the Board will hold its third Attainable Housing Strategies Work Session. The Board will also hear testimony and consider recommendations for the water and sewer category change requests (WSSCR) for six properties. September 15 –The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission will hold its online Full Commission meeting starting at 9 a.m. View the agenda when it is posted.

September 15 – The Planning Board will hold its meeting online starting at 11:15 a.m. The September 16 meeting was rescheduled to this time in observance of Yom Kippur. During the meeting, The Board will be briefed on local economic indicators and the county’s recovery from the pandemic recession. September 18 – Montgomery Planning and Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) invite the community to join them for a bike ride through the new Pike District Connector in White Flint. The event starts at 10 a.m. at the Bethesda Metro Station and will be an approximately six-mile trip along the Bethesda Trolley Trail. The ride will traverse the Pike District Connector and conclude at Wall Local Park for the Pike District Connector Kickoff (11 a.m.). The event is free to attend and all are welcome to join. The Pike District Connector will temporarily connect the Bethesda Trolley Trail to the Montrose Parkway Trail, and activate four public spaces along the way and promote the recently opened Josiah Henson Museum & Park. September 19 – The 2021 Wheaton Arts Parade and Festival (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.), sponsored by Montgomery Planning and Montgomery Parks, will bring Wheaton residents and community members together to enjoy local art, listen to music, and eat delicious food. Montgomery Planning will have a booth where the community can stop by and learn about the Wheaton Downtown Study, the Pedestrian Master Plan, Vision Zero, Design Excellence, and more. The event is free to attend and all are welcome to join. The Parade begins as 10 a.m. The Festival exhibits and food sales, which will take place in Marian Fryer Town Plaza and portions of Reedie Drive, are open at the same time. September 22 – The Historic Preservation Commission will hold its meeting in person and online at Montgomery Planning’s Wheaton Headquarters building (2425 Reedie Drive, Wheaton, MD). To testify on an agenda item, sign up no later than 9 a.m. the day before the hearing. Consult the HPC meeting webpage for agenda information.

September 28 – The Pedestrian Master Plan team will host a virtual training (6 – 8 p.m.) to share the draft Pedestrian Walk Audit Toolkit. During the training, participants will learn how to use the toolkit to lead pedestrian audits in their own communities. These audits are opportunities to identify priority pedestrian issues and effectively communicate those issues to the relevant agencies and elected officials so they can be addressed. September 30 – The Planning Board will hold its meeting online. During the meeting, the Board will hear a presentation on the Takoma Park Minor Master Plan Amendment’s Scope of Work, it will be briefed on the Corridor Forward: The I-270 Transit Plan’s Preliminary Recommendations, and it will receive an update on the Pedestrian Master Plan.
