The Master Plan of Highways and Transitways – 2025 Technical Update was approved on July 29, 2025, by the Montgomery County Council and adopted by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission on September 4, 2025.
The plan includes the following revisions:
- Removes parkways as a master plan street type.
- Reevaluates the classifications of all master-planned roads.
- Identifies and reevaluates target speeds for all master-planned roads.
- Introduces a new street type along the suburban areas of the “Growth Corridors” identified in Thrive Montgomery 2050.
- Reevaluates master-planned transit station locations.
- Removes the unbuilt northern section of Midcounty Highway Extended.
