Montgomery Planning Board and Planning Department Announce June 2020 Online Events

Virtual meetings continue for Planning Board and Historic Preservation Commission as well as the launch of the Thrive Montgomery 2050 Community Chats  

SILVER SPRING, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Board and the Montgomery County Planning Department, both part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), have announced their June 2020 calendar of online meetings. Review the list of events below and go online to www.montgomeryplanning.org for more details.

During this time of social distancing in response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Planning Board will continue to hold public meetings online while the Planning Department Headquarters (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD) is closed to the public. Community members may sign up to testify and provide comments to the Board on specific agenda items through written testimony and via phone during the meeting. The June schedule of events is subject to change based on the fluid situation with the response to the COVID-19 virus.

There are many ways to participate during Planning Board meetings:

June 4 –The Planning Board will hold their meeting online. Consult the Planning Board’s agenda, posted 10 days before the meeting for more information. Meetings are available live and on demand online.

June 9 –Join the Montgomery County Planning Department as they host an online community chat (from Noon to 1 p.m.) for Thrive Montgomery 2050. This series will focus on specific issues that will be addressed in the plan and will be hosted by staff members who are experts in each topic. The topic for this community chat is Parks. The public is invited to join and ask questions. Please RSVP and the link will be sent to you the day of the event or check the Montgomery Planning calendar of events. RSVP for the June 9 event.

June 10 –Join the Montgomery County Planning Department as they host an online Lunch and Learn event (from Noon to 1:30 p.m.) for Thrive Montgomery 2050. This event will focus on LGBTQ+ Communities and Historic Preservation and will feature Planning Board member Partap Verma. This event is in support of the work on Thrive Montgomery 2050 which includes a focus on creating equitable communities. The public is invited to join and ask questions. June 11 –The Planning Board will hold their meeting online. Consult the Planning Board’s agenda, posted 10 days before the meeting for more information. Meetings are available live and on demand online.

June 11 –Join the Montgomery County Planning Department as they host an online Community Chat (from 5 to 6 p.m.) for Thrive Montgomery 2050. This series will focus on specific issues that will be addressed in the plan and will be hosted by staff members who are experts in each topic. The topic for this community chat is Diverse Economies. The public is invited to join and ask questions. June 11 –The Montgomery County Planning Department will hold an online public meeting of the Pedestrian Master Plan Community Advisory Group at 6:45 p.m. The meeting will provide an opportunity for members of the Advisory Group and the public to ask questions, and share pedestrian issues and experiences. Public participation will be possible at the end of the meeting.

June 16 –Join the Montgomery County Planning Department as they host an online Community Chat (from Noon to  1:30 p.m.) for Thrive Montgomery 2050. This series will focus on specific issues that will be addressed in the plan and will be hosted by staff members who are experts in each topic. The topic for this community chat is Connectedness. June 17 –Join the Montgomery County Planning Department as they host an online Community Chat (7 to 8 p.m.) for Thrive Montgomery 2050. This series will focus on specific issues that will be addressed in the plan and will be hosted by staff members who are experts in each topic. The topic for this community chat is Healthy and Sustainable Environment. The public is invited to join and ask questions. June 18 –The Planning Board will hold their meeting online. Consult the Planning Board’s agenda, posted 10 days before the meeting for more information. Meetings are available live and on demand online.

June 22 –Join the Montgomery County Planning Department as they host a Community Chat (from 7 to 8 p.m.) for Thrive Montgomery 2050. This series will focus on specific issues that will be addressed in the plan and will be hosted by staff members who are experts in each topic. The topic for this community chat is Safe and Efficient Travel. The public is invited to join and ask questions. June 23 –Join the Montgomery County Planning Department as they host two Community Chats for Thrive Montgomery 2050. This series will focus on specific issues that will be addressed in the plan and will be hosted by staff members who are experts in each topic. The first topic being discussed is Complete Communities (Noon to 1 p.m.) and the second topic being discussed is Healthy and Sustainable Environment (6:30 to 7:30 p.m.) which will be a bilingual meeting in Spanish and English. June 24 – The Historic Preservation Commission will hold their meeting online. Consult the HPC meeting webpage for agenda information. Meetings are available live and on demand online.

June 24 – Join Montgomery Planning as they host their second virtual happy hour, Pints with a Planner, focused on the topic of Housing. Planning Board Chairman Casey Anderson and Housing Planner Lisa Govoni will discuss why the rent is too #$%! high and what policies we’re exploring in Thrive Montgomery 2050 to make housing more affordable and attainable. This series will focus on specific issues that will be addressed in the plan and will be hosted by staff members who are experts in each topic. The Montgomery County Planning Board oversees the Montgomery County Planning Department and Department of Parks and advises the Montgomery County Council on land use and community planning.
