Montgomery County Planning Department and Board Events in May 2017
May 4 – Planning Department preservationist Clare Lise Kelly will give an illustrated talk based on her award-winning book, Montgomery Modern: Modern Architecture in Montgomery County, Maryland, 1930-1979, at the Silver Spring Library (900 Wayne Avenue, Silver Spring, MD) in Meeting Room 1 at 6 p.m. The talk will be presented in conjunction with the Montgomery Modern exhibit at the library. A book signing will follow with copies for sale.
May 4 – Planning Department staff will brief the Planning Board on amendments to the Forest Conservation Law. The Planning Board will hold a work session for the White Flint 2 Sector Plan that will focus on design guidelines for the plan area. May 5 – Planning Director Gwen Wright will moderate a panel discussion focused on the Rental Housing Study at the Affordable Housing Summit. The event will be held by the Affordable Housing Conference of Montgomery County from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Bethesda North Marriott Conference Center (5701 Marinelli Road, North Bethesda, MD). May 11 – Planning Department staff will brief the Planning Board on amendments to the new Local Area Transportation Review Guidelines. The Planning Board will hold a work session on administrative regulations for the recently rewritten Chapter 50, Subdivision of Land, of the County Code. May 11 – Preservation Maryland is honoring the Planning Department’s Montgomery Modern program with one of its Best of Maryland Awards at a ceremony to be held at the College Park Aviation Museum (1985 Corporal Frank Scott Drive, College Park, MD) from 6 to 9 p.m. Each ticket to the event costs $20 for Preservation Maryland members and $30 for non-members, and can be purchased online.
May 17 – The Coalition for Smarter Growth, a regional organization based in Washington, DC, will honor Planning Board Chair Casey Anderson with its 2017 Prince Livable Communities Leadership Award at a celebration held at National Airport’s historic Terminal A, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Check out the online invitation for tickets and information.
