Montgomery County Planning Department and Board Events in March 2017
March 1 – Montgomery Modern opens at the Montgomery County Planning Department (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD). The ground-floor photo exhibit is based on the award-winning book, Montgomery Modern: Modern Architecture in Montgomery County, 1930-1979, written by staff architectural historian and preservationist Clare Lise Kelly.
March 1-31 – The Planning Department is offering free trees to qualifying property owners in Montgomery County’s urban districts. The Shades of Green program is financed through the Forest Conservation Fund with fees paid during the development process as compensation for tree loss. March 1-31 – The Planning Department is accepting applications from county property owners seeking tax credits for faithfully restoring the exteriors of their historic structures. To be eligible for the Montgomery County Historic Preservation Tax Credit, the property must be listed in the Montgomery County Master Plan for Historic Preservation and restoration work has to be completed no later than December 31, 2016. Owners must file an application as well as documentation of the repairs by April 1, 2017. View a short video about the Historic Tax Credit program. Download the application.
March 2 – The Planning Department will present the key findings and recommendations from the Rental Housing Study to the Planning Board. The fifth work session for the Rock Spring Master Plan will also be held at this meeting, as well as a presentation about the Veirs Mill Corridor Master Plan Scope of Work. March 21 –The third Winter Speaker Series event will be held at the Planning Department (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD) from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This session, From Innovative Zoning to Housing for All, examines innovative approaches to affordable housing options for more county residents in the future. Speakers include officials from the Montgomery County’s Department of Housing and Community Affairs and Arlington, Virginia, and a private consultant.
