Montgomery County Planning Board and Planning Department announce August 2024 calendar of events and meetings

Planning Board will be on recess in August; other meetings continue

Wheaton, Md. – The Montgomery County Planning Board and the Montgomery County Planning Department, both part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), announced their August 2024 calendar of events and meetings.

The Planning Board is on recess in August and will resume weekly meetings on Thursday, September 5, 2024. Prior Board meetings can be watched on demand.

For the month of August, the Montgomery Planning Information Counter located on the 2nd floor of the M-NCPPC Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, Wheaton, MD) will be open for in-person transactions on Wednesdays only: August 7, 14, 21, and 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Inquiries can still be made every weekday by phone (301–495-4610) and email. The Information Counter will resume in-person transactions every weekday starting on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. 

The Development Review Committee  and the Historic Preservation Commission are scheduled to hold their regular meetings in August. Consult their web pages for their agenda information.

August calendar of events and meetings

August 6 – Meet up with Montgomery Planning’s Upcounty Planning team at the free Germantown National Night Out event at the Montgomery College Germantown Campus, Parking Lot 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes neighborhood camaraderie. Planners will share information on the Clarksburg Gateway Sector Plan, Germantown Employment Area Study, and Damascus Placemaking Festival. Chat with a planner and get some Montgomery Planning swag gear!

August 13 – The Development Review Committee (DRC) will meet virtually only. The community is invited to attend the meeting online or by watching the DRC live video stream or viewing on-demand. To request an online invitation, email staff. The DRC is an inter-agency task force comprised of representatives from Montgomery Planning, the State Highway Administration, the county departments of Permitting Services, Environmental Protection, and Transportation, and utilities such as WSSC and PEPCO. At these regularly scheduled meetings twice a month, DRC members discuss development applications with the applicants.

August 14 – The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) will hold its meeting virtually only. To testify on an HPC agenda item, sign up no later than 9 a.m. the day before the hearing.

August 14 – Attend a virtual community workshop for the Bethesda Downtown Plan Minor Master Plan Amendment, at 7 p.m. Planners will present information on the tools available to implement master plan recommendations. The community is invited to hear from subject matter experts and provide feedback on this latest planning effort. RVSPs for August 14 are required to receive a meeting link.

August 17 – Attend a community workshop for the Bethesda Downtown Plan Minor Master Plan Amendment, at 1 p.m. at the Chevy Chase Town Hall (4301 Willow Lane, Chevy Chase, MD). Planners will present information on the tools available to implement master plan recommendations. The community is invited to hear from subject matter experts and provide feedback on this latest planning effort.

September 19 – Planning Board Chair Artie Harris hosts the Planning Board’s second 2024 Speaker Series panel, “A Tale from our Partners: Lessons learned from the trenches.” As jurisdictions across the country embark on plans to increase housing supply, this session will examine lessons learned from agencies that have already implemented attainable housing strategies. Hear from representatives from Oregon, St. Paul, MN, and Arlington, VA, on their initiatives over the past five years to encourage more housing development. They’ll talk about what worked, what didn’t work, what they would do differently, and what advice they have to offer. Read more about the discussion and the panelists. The Speaker Series sessions are open to the public and will be held at The M-NCPPC’s Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, 2nd Floor Auditorium, Wheaton, MD) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Speaker Series sessions will also be livestreamed and available on-demand on the Planning Board website.
