Attend the Wheaton Downtown Study Open House on June 14 and join the first virtual Visioning Workshop for the Fairland and Briggs Chaney Master Plan on June 27
WHEATON, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Board and the Montgomery County Planning Department, both part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), have announced their June 2022 calendar of events and meetings. All persons attending Planning Board meetings in person at M-NCPPC’s Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, Wheaton, MD 20902) must be vaccinated, must sign up in advance, and may be required to show proof of vaccination. Those who participate are expected to observe general rules of decorum and address only the issues relevant to the decision before the Planning Board.
Residents can continue to participate in Planning Board meetings by testifying virtually and watching the meetings on the Planning Board’s live stream. Community members may sign up to testify and provide comments in person, through Microsoft Teams or over the phone to the Planning Board during the meeting on specific agenda items. Written testimony must be submitted in advance of the meeting. For accessibility accommodations, contact us.
There are many ways to participate in Planning Board meetings:
- Watch the Planning Board meeting live online and on demand.
- Listen live over the phone to the Planning Board meeting by calling: 866-774-0898 Password: 24252020
- Sign up to testify via Microsoft Teams, over the phone, or in person during the Planning Board meeting. To testify, fill out the Sign Up to Testify form by 12 noon on the day before the Planning Board meeting.
- On the afternoon before the meeting, you will receive an email with a phone number to call during a designated time to provide your testimony for a specific agenda item. Submitting this form online by the deadline is the only way to testify on meeting items.
- If you have questions, send an email to mcp-chair@mncppc-mc.org or leave a message at 301-495-4605 and a staff member in the Planning Board Chair’s office will contact you.
- Email your written testimony with comments on specific Planning Board agenda items to mcp-chair@mncppc-mc.org by 12 noon on the day before the Planning Board meeting. Items received after this date and time will not be included in the record.

June 1 – Montgomery Planning will host the Fairland and Briggs Chaney Placemaking Festival Virtual Kickoff via Microsoft Teams (6 to 7 p.m.). Residents and business owners are invited to collaborate on a special placemaking initiative to demonstrate the goals of the ongoing Fairland and Briggs Chaney Master Plan. The placemaking festival kickoff event will culminate in a free, community-led event scheduled for October 21 and 22. RSVPs are required to attend the kickoff meeting.
June 2 – The Planning Board will hold its meeting in person and online. Consult the Planning Board’s agenda, posted 10 days before the meeting for more information.
June 8 – The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) will hold its meeting in person at M-NCPPC’s Wheaton Headquarters with a virtual option available upon request. To testify on an agenda item, sign up no later than 9 a.m. the day before the hearing. Consult the HPC meeting webpage for agenda information.
June 9 – The Planning Board will hold its meeting in person and online. Consult the Planning Board’s agenda, posted 10 days before the meeting for more information.
June 12 – Montgomery Planning will participate in the Taste of Wheaton festival in Marian Fryer Town Plaza (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Stop by Montgomery Planning’s booth to learn about current and upcoming plans and projects, including the Wheaton Downtown Study. This festival, hosted by the Wheaton Urban District, will also feature food from Wheaton’s diverse restaurants, live entertainment, and activities for kids.
June 14 – Montgomery Planning will host the Wheaton Downtown Study in-person Open House at M-NCPPC’s Wheaton Headquarters (4 to 7 p.m.). At the open house, Montgomery Planning staff will provide an overview of the purpose of the study, discuss strengths, opportunities and challenges within the Wheaton Central Business District, and present initial strategies to further the implementation of the 2012 Wheaton Central Business District and Vicinity Sector Plan. Montgomery Planning staff will provide a brief presentation once each hour of the open house – at 4:30, 5:30, and 6:30 p.m. The remainder of the event will be open house style and provide an opportunity for the community to learn more about the goals of the study and offer feedback on the study area’s strengths, opportunities, challenges, and initial strategies. Translation assistance and accessibility accommodations are available upon request and must be made by June 7. Interested parties are encouraged to RSVP, but it is not required.

June 27 – Montgomery Planning will host a virtual Visioning Workshop to discuss the Fairland and Briggs Chaney Master Plan via Microsoft Teams (6 to 7:30 p.m.). Share your ideas and recommendations for the future of Fairland and Briggs Chaney communities through the first in a series of interactive activities. There will be one additional virtual Visioning Workshop and four other Visioning Workshops will be held in person. RSVPs are required to attend this virtual meeting.
