Montgomery County Planning Board and Department Events in September 2018
September 6 –The Planning Board returns from its August recess to review several regulatory cases and zoning text amendments, and approve nominated members of the Implementation Advisory Committee for the Bethesda Downtown Sector Plan. For more details, consult the Planning Board meeting agenda.
September 11 – The Planning Department will brief the Montgomery County Council on the implications of the Interstate-495 and Interstate-270 Managed Lanes Study, the first step in the initiative to develop a traffic relief plan to reduce congestion on two of the state’s most heavily traveled highways. The Planning Department is part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, which is considered to be a Cooperating Agency as the steward of parkland and natural resources throughout the study area. The Commission is reviewing the project as the regional planning agency for Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties. Consult the County Council agenda for more details about the briefing.
September 13– The Planning Board will hold a meeting to discuss several preliminary plans for developments and amended forest conservation regulations, among other issues. For more information, consult the Planning Board meeting agenda, which will be posted online 10 days before the meeting date.
September 17 – Planners will hold a community meeting in the Planning Department auditorium (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring) from 6 to 8 p.m. to discuss economic issues related to the Forest Glen/Montgomery Hills Sector Plan. Staff will present the area’s market issues, business conditions and redevelopment possibilities. This information was gathered through a study led by consultants who conducted both primary and secondary research, including interviews with the local business community. Key findings from the study, including the area’s market strengths and weaknesses, will be presented along with the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. RSVP online to attend.
September 20 – The Planning Board will hold a meeting to discuss aspects of the Forest Glen/Montgomery Hills Sector Plan and Veirs Mill Corridor Master Plan, and will be briefed on the Missing Middle Study of housing. September 21 – PARK(ing) Day returns to Montgomery County from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This annual international event is an opportunity for Montgomery Planning and Parks staff to convert curbside parking spaces in downtown Silver Spring into temporary parklets.
September 26 – Planning Department staff will launch the Aspen Hill Vision Zero Study at a community meeting to be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Aspen Hill Library (4407 Aspen Hill Road, Rockville, MD). The discussion will include an explanation of Montgomery County’s Vision Zero policy, the goals of the study and how the community can be involved with this effort to promote a safer community.
