SILVER SPRING, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, is pleased to announce its February 2018 calendar of events. These events offer opportunities for the Planning Department staff and Planning Board members to discuss projects, policies and engage with the public. Montgomery County Planning Department and Board Events in February 2018
February 1- A public hearing will be held for the MARC Rail Communities Plan starting at 7 p.m. at the BlackRock Center for the Arts (12901 Town Commons Drive, Germantown, MD). This master plan evaluates land use, zoning, design, preservation and access conditions at the Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC) stations in Boyds and Germantown. February 1 – The Planning Board will meet to discuss regulatory cases and forest conservation plans. For more details, consult the Planning Board agenda, which will be posted online 10 days before the meeting date.
February 8 – The Planning Board will meet to review a development in Bethesda. For more details, consult the Planning Board agenda. which will be posted online 10 days before the meeting date.
February 15 – The Planning Board will hold a public hearing for the technical update to the Master Plan of Highways and Transitways from 6 to 8 p.m. and the first work session for the Bicycle Master Plan earlier that day. February 22– The Planning Board will meet to discuss regulatory cases and plans. For more details, consult the Planning Board agenda, which will be posted online 10 days before the meeting date.
February 28 – The public is invited to attend the third and final session of the Planning Department’s annual Winter Speaker Series from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The event will focus on the economic future of the suburbs through placemaking to create opportunities for new parks and public spaces, mixed-use development and public art. Speaker Ethan Kent, Senior Vice President of the Project for Public Spaces (PPS) in New York City, will draw on his experiences in more than 800 cities and 55 countries to advance the cause of placemaking. The free session will be held in the Department’s auditorium (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD). RSVPs are encouraged.
