Damascus

A row of brick storefronts and restaurants with awnings, parked cars along the street, and clear skies overhead.
A concrete building with "DRUID" on the facade, large windows, and a covered entrance; two benches and a lamppost are in the grassy area in front, with trees on both sides.
A single-story building with a faded "Damascus Electric Co." sign and a "Style Me Sue Consignments" storefront, located at a street corner with traffic lights.
Single-story diner with green awning, outdoor seating, mural, and an American flag displayed; clear blue sky and light traffic.
People walk through an outdoor street fair lined with blue tents, balloons, pumpkins, and two vertical banners reading "Damascus" and "Placemaking" on a sunny day.
Large red metal sculpture stands on grass near trees, with a baseball field and benches visible in the background under a partly cloudy sky.

Damascus is a historic, community-oriented town in northern Montgomery County, surrounded by the Agricultural Reserve and known for its rural character, strong identity, and mix of housing and local businesses centered around its Town Center. Key natural features include the Great Seneca and Magruder Branch stream valleys and public amenities in the 284-acre Damascus Recreational Park. The commercial hub of downtown Damascus includes shopping centers, dining, public facilities, and schools that serve the area’s roughly 17,000 residents, as of 2022. While the Damascus population has remained stable since 2010, the community has aged, become more diverse, and seen rising incomes, though it remains less diverse than the county overall and largely reliant on cars due to limited transit access.
