Event presents opportunity to learn about the laws, codes and regulations that affect the construction of places of worship in the County
Silver Spring, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Department, part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, will participate with several other county agencies in an event entitled “Empowering Places of Worship,” which is being organized by the Montgomery County Faith Community Advisory Council. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9 at the North Potomac Community Center (13850 Travilah Road, Rockville, MD), and is intended for faith-based organizations that are interested in expanding or constructing a place of worship in Montgomery County.
The event is being co-sponsored by the Department of Permitting Services and the Montgomery County Planning Department.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from planners and county experts about the subdivision regulations, building codes and other laws that must be followed by property owners. Because places of worship are allowed by right in all zones, congregational leaders are often unaware that many other requirements still must be met.
Discussion topics will include forest conservation laws, storm water management and special protection areas, building permits, road access and parking, water and sewer, community use of public facilities and energy conservation programs.
At the meeting, planners will supply written answers to frequently asked questions about preliminary plans of subdivisions and record plats, forest conservation law compliance and special protection areas, among other issues.
