Planning Department Will Host Community Meeting on June 4 to Present Updates on Forest Glen/Montgomery Hills Sector Plan

The public is invited to discuss consultant findings and prior community input is shaping the plan, and provide feedback about the plan through new innovative platforms

SILVER SPRING, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Department, part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, invites the public to a community meeting on Monday, June 4, 2018 to share important updates on the progress of the Forest Glen/Montgomery Hills Sector Plan. The meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Planning Department auditorium (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring). Those planning to attend the meeting are encouraged to RSVP online.

The proposed scope of the Forest Glen/Montgomery Hill Sector Plan is to reevaluate land uses, transportation strategies and redevelopment along the Georgia Avenue corridor as well as offering recommendations to improve the area’s pedestrian and bicycle accessibility, connectivity and safety. The plan also looks to protect and enhance existing residential neighborhoods while balancing the region’s evolving traffic demands. Read more about the plan.

At the June 4 meeting, planners will present the consultant’s findings regarding various aspects of the sector plan and share a draft of the Concept Framework Plan, which includes suggestions from residents, business owners, land owners and county and state agencies. The Concept Framework Plan defines the basic organization, structure and evolution of the sector plan recommendations, which will be refined throughout the summer.

The Planning Department’s updated schedule for the sector plan’s approval process includes delivering draft recommendations to the Planning Board in February 2019 and then sending the Planning Board draft to the County Council and the County Executive in fall 2019.

Montgomery Planning React Map Coming in June

The Planning Department’s Forest Glen/Montgomery Hills team will launch an online mapping platform to host conversations about the plan area. Using hashtags #LoveIt, #FixIt, #NeedIt, residents can text their concerns and comments in real time on existing conditions and preferred improvements. Planners will collect that information and use it to help refine the Concept Framework Plan and develop preliminary recommendations for areas along the corridor. The mapping tool will be launched on June 11, 2018.
