SILVER SPRING, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, is pleased to announce its November 2017 calendar of events. These events offer opportunities for the Planning Department staff and Planning Board members to discuss projects, policies and engage with the public. Montgomery County Planning Department and Board Events in November 2017
November 1-December 15– The Montgomery Planning Department is seeking presentation proposals for its conference Makeover Montgomery 4: Healthy, Smart, Inclusive and Competitive Communities, co-sponsored with the University of Maryland’s National Center for Smart Growth. The conference will be held from May 9 through May 11, 2018 in College Park and Silver Spring, MD. It will bring together planners, architects, developers, real estate professionals, economists, social scientists, ecologists and others to discuss cutting-edge ideas for transforming the suburbs. The deadline for submitting presentation proposals online is December 15, 2017 at 5 p.m. Presentations should focus on innovative planning and policy tools, and strategies that can help transform our suburbs into exciting, attractive and sustainable communities. November 2 – The Planning Department will brief the Planning Board about the scope of work for the Montgomery Hills/Forest Glen Sector Plan and the update to the Silver Spring Streetscape Standards. November 10 – The Planning Department will be closed in honor of Veterans Day.

November 23 and 24 – The Planning Board will not hold a meeting on Thursday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. The Planning Department will be closed on both Thursday and Friday.
