Feedback tool allows public to comment on proposed changes to county roads and transit

SILVER SPRING, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Board, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, has posted a digital interactive map of county highways and transitways to solicit feedback from the public on proposed changes to the Master Plan of Highways and Transitways (MPOHT).

This tool, called the MPOHT Feedback Map, allows users to see the more than 130 proposed changes and updates in the Master Plan of Highways and Transitways, and leave their online comments. A search tool on the GIS-based map will help citizens find their homes or businesses on the map. Once the 130 changes are finalized, the MPOHT Feedback Map will be placed on the Planning Department’s MCAtlas.org site with the property search functionality.

This tool is being launched in advance of public community meetings planned in September and October 2017.

Save these dates for the fall community meetings on the Master Plan of Highways and Transitways update. All meetings will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. RSVPs are encouraged but not required.

About the Technical Update to the Master Plan of Highways and Transitways

The current update to the Master Plan of Highways and Transitways is the first major revision to this plan since 1955. Over time, incremental changes have been made to roadway classifications through master and sector plans, and changes have also been made to the road code. The update will collect and record these changes in one document. This plan essentially is a technical update to bring consistency and usability to the transportation network.

As part of this update, staff will propose a regular schedule of annual or biennial revisions to the Master Plan of Highways and Transitways so future changes are recorded and the plan is kept current.
