Montgomery County Planning Department Events in November 2016
November 3 – The Veirs Mill Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) report will be presented to the Planning Board with staff recommendations. The report outlines the planned BRT corridor between Wheaton and the Montgomery College Rockville Campus. The Planning Board will transmit comments to the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT), Maryland State Highway Administration and Maryland Transit Administration for their review. November 9 – Members from the faith-based community who plan to locate, develop, construct, expand or otherwise locate a place of worship in Montgomery County are invited to attend the Empowering Places of Worship event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the North Potomac Community Center (13850 Travilah Road, Rockville, MD). The goal of the event is to educate Montgomery County faith communities about laws and regulations affecting places of worship. The event is sponsored by Montgomery County and the Planning Department. Learn more about the event.
November 10 – The White Flint 2 Working Draft is scheduled to be presented to the Planning Board. The Working Draft includes recommendations for land use and zoning, transportation, open space, environment and public facilities for an area that is north of the 2010 White Flint Sector Plan area and up to the City of Rockville boundary. The White Flint Sector 2 Plan aims to fill in the gaps between the areas covered by the 2010 White Flint Sector Plan, Twinbrook Sector Plan and the approved City of Rockville plan for Rockville Pike (MD 355). November 15 – Join the reception and awards ceremony held by the National Capital Area Chapter of the American Planning Association to recognize outstanding community plans, programs and initiatives, public education efforts and individuals for their leadership in planning over the past two years. Among the winning projects is the Montgomery County Planning Department’s Bicycle Stress Map, which will be honored with the 2016 Award for an Outstanding Tool. The event will be held at the Atlas Performing Arts Center’s Lang Theatre (1333 H Street, NE, Washington, DC) from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online.
November 17 – A public hearing will be held at the Planning Department headquarters (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD) for the new Recreation Guidelines governing private residential development. Go online to sign up and testify. The guidelines have been updated in response to the county’s changing demographics and increasingly dense infill and high-rise development. A much broader list of acceptable recreation facilities, such as fitness rooms, roof decks and pocket parks, as well as greater connectivity to existing facilities are being proposed as part of the new standards that developers will follow.
