Wheaton headquarters groundbreaking, Silver Spring Library tour and Bicycle Master Plan community meetings are scheduled for June

SILVER SPRING, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Board and Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, are pleased to announce their June 2017 calendar of events. These meetings offer opportunities for the public to engage with the Planning Board and Planning Department staff. Montgomery County Planning Department and Board Events in June 2017

June 1 – Planning Department staff will brief the Planning Board on the Bethesda Downtown Design Guidelines. For more details about this meeting, consult the Planning Board agenda.

June 4 – The groundbreaking for M-NCPPC’s new Wheaton headquarters, where the Planning Department and Planning Board will relocate their offices, will be held at 2 p.m. as part of the Taste of Wheaton event. The public is invited to attend this ceremony on the site of the future building on Reedie Drive, in an area between Georgia Avenue and Veirs Mill Road near the Wheaton Metro station.

June 6 – The first public meeting to discuss the proposed bikeway recommendations for the Bicycle Master Plan will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Planning Department headquarters (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD). Informal discussions with Planning Department staff will be followed by a presentation about the plan at 7:15 p.m. RSVP online.

June 8 – A work session for the White Flint 2 Sector Plan will be held by the Planning Board. For more details about this meeting, consult the Planning Board agenda.

June 8 – The second public meeting to discuss the proposed bikeway recommendations for the Bicycle Master Plan will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Bethesda Regional Services Center (4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda, MD). Informal discussions with Planning Department staff will be followed by a presentation about the plan at 7:15 p.m. RSVP online.

June 10 – The public is invited to attend a free tour of the Silver Spring Library (900 Wayne Avenue, Silver Spring, MD) hosted by the Planning Department’s Design Excellence team and Potomac Valley Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. RSVPs are required and can be registered online.

June 12 – The third public meeting to discuss the Bicycle Master Plan recommendations will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Olney Library (3500 Olney Laytonsville Road, Olney, MD). Informal discussions with Planning Department staff will be followed by a presentation about the plan at 7:15 p.m. RSVP online.

June 14 – The fourth public meeting to discuss the proposed bikeway recommendations will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. at the UpCounty Regional Services Center (12900 Middlebrook Road, Germantown, MD). Informal discussions with Planning Department staff will be followed by a presentation about the plan at 7:15 p.m. RSVP online.

June 15 – The Planning Board will review the Energized Public Spaces Master Plan for parks in mixed-use and high density residential areas. Consult the Planning Board agenda for meeting details.

June 22 – The Planning Board will hold a work session for the 2017 Park, Recreation and Open Space (PROS) Plan. For more about the session, consult the Planning Board agenda.

June 22 – The final public meeting to discuss the proposed bikeway recommendations for the Bicycle Master Plan will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Marilyn J. Praisner Library (14910 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville, MD). Informal discussions with Planning Department staff will be followed by a presentation about the plan at 7:15 p.m. RSVP online.

June 29 – Findings from the countywide Retail Market Strategy Study will be presented to the Planning Board. For more about the session, consult the Planning Board agenda.
