Big Ideas Series kicks off, the Ashton Village Center Sector Plan team meets with community members and the Planning Board meetings resume

SILVER SPRING, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Board and the Montgomery County Planning Department, both part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), are pleased to announce their January 2020 calendar of events. January 2 – The Planning Board will not hold a meeting in observance of the holiday break.

January 9 – Planning Board is back in session starting at 9:30 a.m. with agenda items including a briefing on the Master Plan Check Up and a presentation on the 2020 Census. Check the Board’s agenda for details.

January 14 – The community is invited to attend a discussion on the Future of Food as part of the Thrive Montgomery 2050 Big Ideas Series. The moderated discussion will focus on the future of food production and farming in Montgomery County from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Planning Department headquarters (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD). RSVPs are encouraged, but not required. The session will be available live and on-demand online.

January 16 – The Planning Board will meet at 8787 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD. Consult the Planning Board’s agenda, posted 10 days before the meeting.

January 16 – A community meeting is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for the Ashton Village Center Sector Plan at the Sandy Spring Museum (17901 Bentley Road, Sandy Spring, MD). The meeting will focus on obtaining feedback from the community on staff-prepared potential development scenarios for the Village Center, including residential and commercial uses and publicly accessible open space.

RSVPs are encouraged but not required.

January 23 – The Planning Board will meet at 8787 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD. Consult the Planning Board’s agenda, posted 10 days before the meeting.

January 30 – The Planning Board will meet and will receive a briefing on the Environmental Guidelines update scope and process. Consult the Planning Board’s agenda, posted 10 days before the meeting for more details.
