Planners Looking to Build Swaths of Green Seek Public Input at June 7 Meeting

SILVER SPRING, MD – Montgomery County Planning Department staff, drawing maps depicting a wish list of environmentally sensitive areas that would potentially be protected by the Planning Board and other policy-makers, seek ideas from the community at a June 7 open house.

Called the Green Infrastructure Plan, the project will identify and evaluate sensitive and important environmental features and connect them in a comprehensive system. Maps of interconnected areas containing important natural resources will guide the board and other county decision-makers when they craft master plans and review development applications. The plan also will inform the board as it considers parkland acquisition.

At the open house, scheduled for a Saturday to encourage residents to attend, planners will present draft scenarios of the plan. Meeting participants will discuss the merits of the draft scenarios and provide input on how planners can form the green network as one way to conserve valuable natural resources.
