SILVER SPRING – Norman Dreyfuss, a developer and affordable housing advocate, was sworn in today as a member of the Montgomery County Planning Board. Dreyfuss was appointed by the Montgomery County Council this month to replace former Commissioner Jean Cryor.
As Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the IDI Group Companies, Dreyfuss is a developer with decades of experience throughout the Washington, D.C., region. Dreyfuss has worked in all aspects of community development. Among other projects, Dreyfuss developed Leisure World of Maryland. The region’s largest retirement community, Leisure World has more than 8,000 residents.
A champion of affordable housing, Dreyfuss serves as a commissioner on the Montgomery County Housing Opportunities Commission and co-chairs the county’s annual Affordable Housing Conference. He has served on the County Affordable Housing Task Force and numerous other commissions and task forces related to condominiums, affordable housing, and master planning.
In 2003, Dreyfuss received the Milton E. Kettler Award from the Maryland-National Capital Building Industry Association for his long history of civic work.
As commissioner, Dreyfuss said he hopes to play a role in creating livable, sustainable communities, preserve historic resources, and help maintain and improve the efficiency of the Department of Parks and Planning Department.
A Potomac resident, Dreyfuss holds a J.D. from American University and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a B.A. in Fine Arts from Rutgers University.
