Montgomery County Planning Board and Planning Department announce October Calendar of Events

Attend the Fairland and Briggs Chaney Placemaking Festival October 21–22

WHEATON, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Board and the Montgomery County Planning Department, both part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), have announced their October 2022 calendar of events and meetings. All persons attending Planning Board meetings in person at M-NCPPC’s Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, Wheaton, MD 20902) must be vaccinated, must sign up in advance, and may be required to show proof of vaccination. Those who participate are expected to observe general rules of decorum and address only the issues relevant to the decision before the Planning Board.

Residents can continue to participate in Planning Board meetings by testifying virtually and watching the meetings on the Planning Board’s live stream. Community members may sign up to testify and provide comments in person, through Microsoft Teams, or over the phone to the Planning Board during the meeting on specific agenda items. Written testimony must be submitted in advance of the meeting. Contact us for accessibility accommodations.

To sign up to testify for Planning Board meetings, please go to the sign up to testify page and view individual agendas. Agendas are usually made public 10 days prior to the start of a meeting. Consult the Development Review Committee (DRC) and Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) websites for agenda information.

October 6 – The Planning Board will hold its meeting in person and online.

October 6 – Stop by and meet the Great Seneca Plan team when they pop up at Downtown Crown (303 Copley Place, Gaithersburg, MD 20878) from 4 to 6 p.m. Talk with planners and learn more about the plan.

October 11 – The Development Review Committee (DRC) will meet in person and virtually. The community is invited to attend the meeting online by watching the DRC live video stream or viewing on-demand.

October 12 – Meet the Great Seneca Plan team when they pop up at the Manna Choice Market at the Grove (Entrance of Universities at Shady Grove Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Building, located at 9631 Gudelsky Drive, Rockville, Maryland 20850) from 3 to 6 p.m. Talk with planners and learn more about the plan.

October 12 – The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) will hold its meeting in person at M-NCPPC’s Wheaton Headquarters with a virtual option available upon request. To testify on an agenda item, sign up no later than 9 a.m. the day before the hearing.

October 13 – The Planning Board will hold its meeting in person and online.

October 18 – The Takoma Park Minor Master Plan Amendment team invite community members to a Visioning Open House at Piney Branch Elementary School (7510 Maple Avenue, Takoma Park, MD 20912) from 7 to 9 p.m. The event will consist of an open-house style format on what the future of Takoma Park could look like at the Washington Adventist Hospital and University campuses, the Erie Center, as well as the area along Maple Avenue. RSVPs are encouraged.

October 19 – Volunteer to help bring the Fairland and Briggs Chaney Placemaking ideas to life. The community-led build of the festival will be held October 19 through October 22 with various ways to get involved. Volunteers may be asked to apply paint to create a ground mural, construct items such as: tables, chairs, art sculptures, a children’s fort with a bounce path, and provide assistance with festival operations, such as set up, clean up, and parking management. Interested parties can sign up for volunteer slots. Student Service Learning (SSL) hours will be available for students. To volunteer, you must complete the sign-up and release forms.

October 20 – The Planning Board will hold its meeting in person and online.

October 21-22 – The community is invited to attend the Fairland and Briggs Chaney Placemaking Festival as Montgomery Planning and the Better Block Foundation work to bring to life the goals of the Fairland and Briggs Chaney Master Plan by temporarily reimagining the Briggs Chaney Park and Ride. This free, community event will be held October 21 and 22 (rain or shine) at the Briggs Chaney Park and Ride near the Eastern Montgomery Regional Services Center (3300 Briggs Chaney Road, Silver Spring, MD 20904).

October 25 – The Development Review Committee (DRC) will meet in person and virtually. The community is invited to attend the meeting online by watching the DRC live video stream or viewing on-demand.

October 26 – Montgomery Planning invites the community to attend a visioning meeting for the Great Seneca Plan at Rosemont Elementary School (16400 Alden Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD 20877) from 7 to 8 p.m. Provide ideas for the future of the Great Seneca area of the county, an area that borders the cities of Gaithersburg and Rockville and includes the Universities at Shady Grove, Adventist Healthcare Shady Grove, and surrounding areas. RSVPs are encouraged but not required. Translation and ADA requests are needed by October 14. RSVP for the event.

October 27 – The Planning Board will hold its meeting in person and online.
