Montgomery County Planning Board and Planning Department Events in May 2019
May 1 – The governing body of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) will be briefed by M-NCPPC staff on the status of the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) Interstate-495 and Interstate-270 Managed Lanes Study. The Managed Lanes Study is a MDOT SHA initiative to develop a traffic relief plan to reduce congestion on two of the state’s most heavily traveled highways. The briefing is scheduled to take place at approximately 11 a.m. during the M-NCPPC full commission meeting in the auditorium of the Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation Administration Building (6600 Kenilworth Avenue, Riverdale, MD). The community is invited to attend the briefing, but this meeting is not open for public comment.
May 7 – The Montgomery County Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Planning Department (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD) to discuss historic area work permit applications and other issues. The applications are due 21 days before the meeting.
May 9 – The Planning Board will hold a meeting to discuss a pilot program for e-bikes and e-scooters on park trails, hold a work session for the Bethesda Downtown Plan Implementation Guidelines and review the preliminary recommendations for the Germantown Plan for the Town Sector Zone. May 16 – The Planning Board will hold a meeting to review Montgomery Parks funding and regulatory cases. For more details, consult the Planning Board meeting agenda, which will be posted online 10 days before the meeting date.
May 17 – Montgomery Planning invites the public to participate in Bike to Work Day. Planners will be at pit stops in Bethesda, Fallsgrove, North Bethesda, Silver Spring and Takoma Park to hand out information and answer questions about the 2018 Bicycle Master Plan. They will also discuss ongoing efforts to implement Montgomery County’s Vision Zero policy to eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injuries by 2030. May 20 – Montgomery Planning invites the community to attend the Shady Grove Minor Master Plan Amendment meeting to discuss transportation and infrastructure conditions from 7 to 9 p.m. at Mill Creek Towne Elementary School (17700 Park Mill Drive, Rockville, MD). RSVPs are encouraged, but not required.

May 30 – The Planning Board will hold a public hearing for the Forest Glen/Montgomery Hills Sector Plan at the Planning Department auditorium (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD). May 30 – Montgomery Planning invites residents and visitors to enjoy the vibrancy of Silver Spring public art with a free Art Walk from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Art Walk participants will meet at Denizens Brewing Co. (1115 East West Highway, Silver Spring, MD) and visit various installations to hear from artists and experts about the artworks. Visit the https://silverspringartwalkapril.eventbrite.com to sign up. About the Montgomery County Planning Board
The Montgomery County Planning Board oversees the Montgomery County Planning Department and Department of Parks and advises the Montgomery County Council on land use and community planning. The board reviews all plans, development applications and regulatory cases, providing guidelines for the pattern and pace of future development and preserving historic resources throughout the 323,000-acre county. In addition, the board manages the county’s 36,895-acre park system that includes 421 parks. Board members also serve as Commissioners of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, a bi-county agency established in 1927 to protect public land.
