Montgomery County Planning Board and Planning Department Announce July 2019 Events

Montgomery County Planning Board and Planning Department Events in July 2019

July 4 – The Planning Board will not convene in observance of Independence Day.

July 10 – The Montgomery County Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Planning Department (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD) to discuss historic area work permit applications and other issues. The applications are due 21 days before the meeting.

July 11 – The Planning Board will hold work sessions for the Rock Spring and White Flint 2 Urban Design Guidelines and the Forest Glen/Montgomery Hills Sector Plan. For more details, consult the Planning Board meeting agenda, which will be posted 10 days before the meeting.

July 17 – The Planning Board will hold a public hearing for the Germantown Plan for the Town Sector Zone at the Upcounty Regional Services Center (12900 Middlebrook Road, Germantown, MD) starting at 7 p.m. Community members interested in testifying at the hearing should consult the Planning Board agenda website about signing up.

July 18 – The Planning Board will meet to discuss proposed developments in the county, among other agenda items.  For more details, consult the Planning Board meeting agenda, which will be posted 10 days before the meeting.

July 24 – The Montgomery County Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Planning Department (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD) to discuss historic area work permit applications and other issues. The applications are due 21 days before the meeting.

July 25 – The Planning Board will discuss various proposed developments, hold a work session for the Forest Glen/Montgomery Hills Sector Plan and pay tribute to Planning Board Vice Chair Norman Dreyfuss, whose tenure expires with this meeting. This session is the last before the Planning Board’s recess from August 9 through August 29. The Board will resume its weekly meetings on September 5.

The Montgomery County Planning Board oversees the Montgomery County Planning Department and Department of Parks and advises the Montgomery County Council on land use and community planning. The board reviews all plans, development applications and regulatory cases, providing guidelines for the pattern and pace of future development and preserving historic resources throughout the 323,000-acre county. In addition, the board manages the county’s 36,895-acre park system that includes 421 parks. Board members also serve as Commissioners of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, a bi-county agency established in 1927 to protect public land. Current Planning Board members are Chair Casey Anderson, Vice Chair Norman Dreyfuss, Natali Fani-Gonzalez, Gerald Cichy and Tina Patterson.
