Montgomery County Planning Board and Planning Department Events in February 2019

February 7 – The Planning Board will be briefed on the County Executive’s recommended budget for the FY19-24 Capital Improvements Program, among other agenda items. For more details, consult the Planning Board meeting agenda, which will be posted online 10 days before the meeting date.

February 13 – Montgomery Planning will hold the second session of its 2019 Winter Speaker Series in preparation for the launch of the county’s General Plan update. Speaker Harriet Tregoning will discuss “What is Real Resilience? Positioning our Communities to Thrive in Changing Times,” examining the potentially disruptive technological, social, environmental and economic changes coming our way over the next few decades and their impact on the region. Tregoning is the former Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Office of Community Planning and Development at the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development and former Planning Director for Washington, DC. This free event is open to the public and will be held at the Planning Department (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD) from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; the session also will be livestreamed.

February 14 – The Planning Board will review several preliminary plans for development. For more details, consult the Planning Board meeting agenda, which will be posted online 10 days before the meeting date.

February 20 – A public open house on the Greater Lyttonsville Sector Plan Design Guidelines will be held from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Gwendolyn E. Coffield Community Center (2450 Lyttonsville Road, Silver Spring, MD). The guidelines provide a framework for the design of new and improved streetscapes, buildings, parks and open spaces within the area of the Greater Lyttonsville Sector Plan, which was approved and adopted in 2017. During the open house, planners will be available to discuss the design guidelines and answer questions. RSVP to laura.shipman@montgomeryplanning.org with the time you plan to attend.

February 21 – The Planning Board will review plans for development and site plan and zoning amendments. For more details, consult the Planning Board meeting agenda, which will be posted online 10 days before the meeting date.

February 26 – Attend the Aspen Hill Vision Zero Transportation Safety Issues community meeting on Tuesday, February 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Harmony Hills Elementary School (13407 Lydia St, Silver Spring, MD). The Montgomery County Planning Department invites everyone who lives, works or has an interest in traffic, bicycle, pedestrian, and transit safety issues in the Aspen Hill area to community meeting for the Aspen Hill Vision Zero Study. Share issues from your neighborhood and your commute. Planning staff will also share findings from data collection and analysis.

February 28 – The Planning Board will hold a work session for the Montgomery County Department of Parks’ drafted Energized Public Spaces Design Guidelines, among other items.
