Montgomery County Planners Schedule Activities to Advance Zoning Rewrite Project

SILVER SPRING, MD – Planners rewriting Montgomery County’s zoning code, after contracting with a team of consultants to help undertake the revision, are reaching out to the public about what changes they would like to see. To that end, residents, developers, property owners and anyone interested in the future of zoning in Montgomery County is invited to a listening session at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 29.

County planners, who have been working on an analysis of the zoning code in preparation for a major overhaul, hired the consultant team to help draft the revision. To orient new partners in the rewrite project, planners have scheduled a series of learning opportunities, including the public session. The listening session will feature small group discussions where participants can describe what’s good – and bad – about the current zoning code and make recommendations for the rewrite.

Another opportunity for the public to learn more about the project will come at the October 1 Planning Board meeting, when members will meet the consultant team.  The team will explain the timeline and process for the project and share their impressions of Montgomery County’s current zoning. The work session item before the Board does not provide an opportunity for public testimony.

The consulting team and planners will interview county officials and take a driving tour as part of what planners are billing as Zoning Week.
