“One of my favorite things about working at Montgomery Planning is working with the community through the planning process. At Montgomery Planning, we’re committed to an inclusive and meaningful planning process that creates truly great places that are designed and accessible to all our residents. Through the planning process, we’re able to guide and empower the community to help shape and enhance the built environment and quality of life throughout the county.”
–Lisa Govoni, housing planner
“Working at Montgomery Planning gives me the opportunity to engage with our diverse residents in many wonderful ways. My family lives in Silver Spring and my kids go to the local school so having a job that calls on me to enhance the county’s-built environment through better design is doubly rewarding. I often find myself walking or biking in a neighborhood and come across a new plaza, street, or a building that me and my colleagues helped plan and bring to life. That visceral connection to the place you call home is what gets me excited to come to work every day.”
–Atul Sharma, assistant to deputy director, development
“As a regional leader in planning, I strive to make a positive difference in the future of the DMV. That is what led me to work at Montgomery Planning, which plans for the future of the most populated county in all of Maryland. My colleagues are experts in their fields and have pioneered nationally modeled programs in agricultural preservation, inclusionary housing, and transit-oriented design. We continue to learn from each other every day and share our findings with Montgomery County’s leaders and community members at meetings, conferences, and events. I’m proud to contribute to such an amazing team every day.”
–Tanya Stern, acting planning director
“Montgomery Planning is a truly innovative and inspiring place to work. Over the past 15 years, I have learned so much from my world-class teammates, agencies, passionate residents, elected and appointed officials, and development community. Throughout my career, I have been encouraged to be creative, to push the envelope and to keep Montgomery Planning at the forefront as a leader in the planning community. I have also been fortunate enough to rise through the ranks over the years, beginning as a senior planning technician on the Information Desk, and currently serving as chief of the Upcounty Planning Division. I am truly excited to embrace the challenges of each day, and I am so grateful to be part of the Commission family.”
–Patrick Butler, Upcounty planning chief
