SILVER SPRING – Have a great idea for a project that will help preserve Montgomery County’s rich history? The county Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) is accepting proposals from nonprofit organizations and local governments for historic preservation grants.
The mini-grants – which average $2,000 to $5,000 and are funded by the Montgomery County Council and the County Executive – are intended to advance a variety of historic preservation projects. Funding through the Historic Preservation Grant Fund contribute to the preservation and understanding of the county’s cultural legacy.
Eligible projects include:
* public education such as website development, lectures, videos, workshops or training
* historical and archeological surveys, oral history documentation, development and installation of historic district and historic resource signs
*studies for restoration or preservation of buildings, sites, and historical artifacts
* walking tours, handbooks, design guidelines and/or brochures related to historic dis¬tricts or historic resources
* exhibits, brochure or books on local history
A total of $30,000 is available for historic preservation-related projects to be completed during 2010.
