SILVER SPRING, MD – Montgomery County Department of Park and Planning is inviting the public to attend a meeting with its staff to review the Staff Draft of the Twinbrook Plan on Monday, August 29, 7 to 9 p.m., at the Twinbrook Community Recreation Center, 12920 Twinbrook Parkway, Rockville, Maryland.
The plan fosters the creation of a mixed-use community at the Twinbrook Metro station that will provide another “life sciences center.” The land uses include biotechnology and advanced technology employment, light industrial uses and residential uses to create a community for the 21st century. Key features of the draft plan for walkable, livable communities include easy pedestrian access to the Metro station, open space, parks and other amenities that contribute to the quality of life Montgomery County residents have come to expect.
This fall, the Montgomery County Planning Board will review the staff recommendation and set a public hearing date. During the public hearing, the Planning Board will listen to comments and concerns from the residents, businesses and organizations before beginning its worksessions to refine the plan. After the worksessions are completed, the Planning Board will transmit a Planning Board Draft to the Montgomery County Council for its Public Hearing and worksessions. A final approved and adopted plan should be completed in early 2006.
An amendment to the 1992 North Bethesda Garrett Park Master Plan, the Twinbrook Plan gives the public and the Board an opportunity to examine the unique character of development and communities surrounding the Twinbrook Metro Station.
