SILVER SPRING, MD – Show off what you like best about our community in pictures as part of the Montgomery County Planning Department’s 2008 photo contest, which kicks off today.
In its Great Communities photo contest, the agency seeks original photographs taken in the county in the last year. Winning photographers will receive cash awards ranging from $75 to $300 and have their images displayed at public events, published in Planning Department publications and posted at www.MontgomeryPlanning.org.
Among the panel of contest judges is Jim Thresher, a former Washington Post photographer. Twice named photographer of the year by the White House News Photographers, Thresher has shot everything from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to the Old Post Office Building during his 36 years on staff.
Other judges come from area photography clubs – the National Institutes of Health and North Bethesda clubs – as well as Planning Department staff.
Entries are due by August 20 and winners will be announced at the Magical Montgomery festival on September 27 in downtown Silver Spring. The annual festival run by the county Arts and Humanities Council celebrates the local arts.
Planners hope to receive photos demonstrating the county’s high quality of life, including scenes depicting vibrant urban downtowns, rural life, parks/trails, people, buildings and public spaces, among other subjects.
All photos must be taken in Montgomery County and be in color. The contest offers two categories: adult and youth (under-18). Entries may be color prints or high-resolution digital images. Read the rules, download an entry form and submit your images online.
