Community invited to give feedback on existing strengths and weaknesses of the plan area
SILVER SPRING, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Department will be hosting a community workshop for the Greater Lyttonsville Sector Plan on Tuesday, July 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to identify existing strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges for the Plan Area. The meeting will take place at the Gwendolyn E. Coffield Center (2450 Lyttonsville Road, Silver Spring, MD) and all residents, property owners and business owners are invited to attend. RSVP’s are encouraged, but not required.
As a follow-up to the successful relaunch meeting held in early May, the planning team would like to invite residents to give their feedback on preferences for the Plan Area which will help to contribute to the overall plan, which will form the foundation for transforming the heart of Greater Lyttonsville.

The Greater Lyttonsville Sector Plan was initially started in summer 2012 but was placed on hold at the direction of the County Council. Now, planners are looking to re-engage the community from the area west of Silver Spring and east of Rock Creek Park to determine the vision for the area that will guide development for the next twenty years and beyond.
The planning process will include a review of zoning and land use, with a particular focus on the commercial area along Brookville Road and the two proposed Purple Line stations. The Plan will look at potential locations for mixed-use development near stations, examine important employment centers, seek to preserve and enhance the existing single-family neighborhood character, coordinate with the Fort Detrick Forest Glen Annex planning process, address quality of life issues, and strive to maintain affordable housing and support cultural diversity. It will also address connections between the existing residential neighborhoods and employment areas along Brookville Road.
