Montgomery Planning Developing Design Guidelines for Greater Lyttonsville

New design guidelines will help shape improvements to streets, public spaces and buildings in the Greater Lyttonsville Sector Plan area

SILVER SPRING, MDThe Montgomery County Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, is currently working with community stakeholders to develop the Greater Lyttonsville Sector Plan Design Guidelines. The guidelines will provide a framework for the design of new and improved streetscapes, buildings, parks and open spaces in the plan area. They will build on the recommendations in the Greater Lyttonsville Sector Plan, which was approved and adopted in 2017.

Addressing both private developments and public improvements, the design guidelines will help ensure that new buildings and public spaces complement the neighborhood. The guidelines will show specific ways of achieving design goals and will provide the Planning Board, community groups, developers and local organizations with a clear and consistent framework for generating and reviewing projects. Montgomery Planning staff are meeting with working groups of community members and other stakeholders throughout the process to develop the guidelines.

After the Working Draft of the Greater Lyttonsville Sector Plan Design Guidelines is released in early 2019, Montgomery Planning will hold drop-in hours at the Gwendolyn E. Coffield Community Recreation Center to hear comments from the community and answer questions about the draft guidelines.

Before finalizing the design guidelines, Montgomery Planning will hold a briefing and work sessions with the Montgomery County Planning Board that will be open to the public. Dates for these meetings will be posted on the Greater Lyttonsville Design Guidelines website and the Planning Board agenda website.
