Biomedical facilities and new projects in the Life Sciences Corridor will be focus of discussion at MoCo’s Kings and Queens of the North forum held at Park Potomac
SILVER SPRING, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), is participating at a speakers event sponsored by the digital media company Bisnow on January 24 at 12435 Park Potomac Avenue in Potomac. Titled “MoCo’s Kings and Queens of the North,” the forum will examine the life sciences, bio med, office, multi-family housing and mixed-use developments in the northern part of Montgomery County.
Planning Director Gwen Wright will be one of four speakers on a panel focused on the development, leasing and tenant demands of bio medical and office parks. She will discuss plans and projects for the Great Seneca Science Corridor, Germantown and other communities that are now coming to fruition.
“Montgomery County is one of the top 10 biotech regions in the country,” says Wright. “The Great Seneca Science Corridor is where the life sciences, universities and new development converge. This isn’t just an ordinary suburban office park but a dynamic place with bicycle and pedestrian paths, retail, incubator businesses and housing, thanks to smart planning and public-private partnerships.”
The Great Seneca Science Corridor Master Plan, approved by the County Council in 2010, establishes the vision for this life sciences-based district near Interstate 270. Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Johns Hopkins University-Montgomery County Campus (JHU-MCC), the Universities at Shady Grove and biotechnology companies are all located in the plan area and more development is slated for this growing life sciences center.
