Implementation Monitoring

The 2017 Approved and Adopted Bethesda Downtown Sector Plan is being implemented through focused coordination between public and private interests. The Plan’s vision stems from the goals and recommendations within the Sector Plan to enhance Downtown Bethesda over the next 20 years. The aim of the Plan is to achieve a truly sustainable downtown by focusing on components that will bolster the elements in most need of enhancement including increased parks and open space, affordable housing, environmental innovation, economic competitiveness and design excellence.

The 2017 Bethesda Downtown Plan recommends that Planning staff report annually on progress toward implementation of the plan recommendations for parks, schools, and transportation.  From 2018 to 2023, this information and more was compiled into an extensive Annual Monitoring Report document that also included information on recent development activity and, in 2023, progress toward greening downtown Bethesda. These documents are linked below.

Beginning in 2024, all of this information will be included on this Implementation Tracking page. At the moment, the pages listed below reflect the 2023 Bethesda Annual Monitoring Report, or more recent information when available. Staff will update the information at least biannually, in January and July. In addition, staff will continue to present an annual update to the Planning Board on parks, schools, and transportation.
