Demographic Profile of the Kemp Mill Master Plan Area - 2000
Introduction to Area
This Community-Based Planning area is comprised of the communities north of the Beltway along New Hampshire Avenue on the southeast, Prince George's County on the east, Howard County on the north and Sligo Creek Park and Northwest Branch on the west and southwest. This area includes the following communities:
- White Oak
- Kemp Mill
- Fairland
- Cloverly
- Sandy Spring/Ashton
The recent Eastern Montgomery County master plans acknowledge the established and stable nature of the communities of Sandy Spring/Ashton, Cloverly, Fairland, and White Oak and contain recommendations that reinforce that character while protecting the individuality of each area. The Plans also recognize that neighborhood commercial districts can and should serve as focal points, or centers, for the surrounding residential areas. This concept--community and center--reflects the goals and recommendations in these Plans. A major component in the Eastern County Team's Work Program is to facilitate the recommendations contained in these master plans.
The Eastern County work program focuses on the ordering of residential, commercial, and employment uses in ways that create communities in which people can live, work and shop. The Team will continue to facilitate the realization of each Plan's vision. The Team will refine the common elements that strengthen the components of "community and center" and further define what types of activities contribute to this concept.
