Downtown Silver Spring Progress

Downtown Silver Spring is coming to life again — and the surrounding neighborhoods are benefiting from the new vitality.

The retail phase of the Downtown Silver Spring Revitalization Project — including numerous restaurants, movie theaters and a bookstore — is complete. The new hotel, office building and garages have also been completed. The renovation of the Silver Theatre for the American Film Institute and the construction of new facilities for the Roundhouse Theatre on Colesville Road have proven to be very popular with the community.

Montgomery County has implemented new gateway signs at the major entrances to the downtown. The new District Court House at Second and Apple Avenues is open. The first three phases of the Montgomery College Expansion (i.e., the new Health Sciences building on Georgia Avenue, the Cafritz Arts Center, and the new Student Activity Center) are complete. The College's Cultural Arts Center is under construction and a new garage is under design. A new pedestrian bridge over the railroad tracks is open and Jesup Blair Park has been renovated.
