Public Project: Shady Grove Access Bike Path

Description
This project provides a new 10-foot wide bike path from Shady Grove Road to Redland Road along the east side of the WMATA Metro Access Road (approximately 4,700 feet); a bikeway ramp from the new bike path to an existing bikeway on Crabbs Branch Way (approximately 500 feet); a signalized at-grade pedestrian/bikeway crossing on the WMATA Metro Access Road; a Metro access bikeway connection (approximately 200 feet) to provide access from the new bike path to the WMATA Shady Grove Metrorail Station.
This bikepath will provide a safe pedestrian access to the Metro Station and allow several existing residential communities will benefit from improved access to the Metro station. This new path will implement a bikeway recommendation from the Shady Grove Sector Plan.

County Procedures
This project is identified in the County’s Capital Improvement Program (FY-06) as No. 500600. The estimate cost for the new bikepath is approximately 2.7 million dollars.
