Public Project: Clarksburg Water Storage Facility

Description
The proposed Clarksburg Water Storage Facility is located on the southwest side of the interchange of I-270 and MD 121 near the proposed employment area in the Cabin Branch development. The elevated water storage tank is to be 750,000 gallon facility to enhance water system adequacy. It will be fenced and gated for security, but periodic access by the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) staff will be required for facility and site maintenance. This 24-hour, remotely-operated facility will serve approximately 15,000 people excepted in the WSSC's 760A pressure zone by year 2020.

Opportunity for public participation
Several public outreach meetings were held by WSSC to discuss the location of the water tower. This project will be scheduled for Planning Board review and comments. The hearing date has been tentatively scheduled for April 3, 2008. The mandatory referral is available for review at the M-NCPPC Office in Silver Spring. Please call the applicant and/or staff if you would like to meet. Written comments to the Planning Board Chairman, staff, and the applicant are encouraged during the mandatory referral process.
On September 24, 2007, the WSSC staff updated the community on the Clarksburg Water Storage Facility at the Clarksburg Civic Association meeting. The meeting was held at 7:30 p.m. at the Clarksburg Ombudsman building located at MD 355 and Stringtown Road in the Highlands Shopping.
