One of the ways we can improve the pedestrian experience in Montgomery County is through the development process.

So right now, the sidewalk I'm standing on was reconstructed when this grocery store was redeveloped. And you can see I'm standing on a wide sidewalk,

there's a nice tree panel and parking separating me from the travel lanes, there are some places to sit.

You contrast that with the experience on the next parcels and we see there's a narrow sidewalk immediately next to traffic.

So while there are a lot of recommendations in the plan about what the Department of Transportation and what the county can do to make the pedestrian experience better,

there are great opportunities in using the private development process as they improve the frontages to the roadways along their developments to be more pedestrian friendly as well.
