Damascus is a unique area within Montgomery County, with a rural character and a tight-knit “small town” community worth preserving. Yet even one of the county’s best places to live has room for improvement—most notably in the Main Street area, where business owners and other local stakeholders have long desired revitalization efforts toward making it a more walkable and easily identifiable town center.
Working closely with residents, businesses, civic associations, and other stakeholders, Montgomery Planning has now begun the process to update the established 2006 Damascus Master Plan to refresh its vision for a thriving downtown that embraces the community’s agrarian past while addressing the needs of the future. In a county that has grown and changed substantially over the last 20 years, this refresh is essential—and it will only be as successful as the collaboration among those who live, learn, work, and play in Damascus.
We hope you’ll join us in discovering what Main Street Damascus can become—and in helping to realize a shared vision of safer streets, more connectivity, and better opportunities.

Planning Staff are preparing a scope of work that will guide the process and schedule of the Damascus Main Street Sector Plan Amendment, meeting with community members and gathering community trends and issues to be addressed.
