College Park and Silver Spring are both easily accessible from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). From a transit perspective, National Airport is most convenient to Silver Spring.

By Transit

The University of Maryland is served by the Green Line of the Washington Metrorail:

• Take the Green Line to the College Park-UMD station.
• The university’s Shuttle-UM #104 picks up university-bound passengers on the EAST side of the metrorail station. Exit the Metro station to the left and walk up the stairs to the bus waiting area.
• Shuttle-UM service between the College Park-UMD Station and the center of campus is very frequent – every 6 minutes during peak hours most weekdays – and is open to everyone – no ID required.
• Take Shuttle-UM to the Campus Drive stop near the “M” circle.
• Walk up the hill on Campus Drive and pass Stamp Student Union on your right.
• Follow the street as it curves left past the turtle planter. At the next intersection, Campus Drive turns sharply to the right. Follow Campus Drive to the right.
• After the turn, the School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation Building is on the left. Take the pedestrian bridge across to the second-floor entrance.
• Once inside, walk straight ahead to the end of the corridor. Walk downstairs to reach the auditorium.

By Car

Driving From Maryland and Northern Virginia:

• From the DC Beltway (I-495), take exit 28B/MD-650 South (New Hampshire Avenue) toward Takoma Park.
• At the second traffic light on New Hampshire Avenue (comes up quickly) turn left onto Adelphi Road.
• Stay on Adelphi Road to University Boulevard (MD-193).
• Immediately after going through the MD-193 intersection, get into the left turning lane.
• Turn left at the light onto Campus Drive
• Stay on Campus Drive until you reach the traffic circle.
• Turn left at the circle (i.e. go 3/4 of the way around the circle) for free parking in Lot 1. (Note: Read signs carefully to avoid being ticketed.)
• The School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation Building is at the corner of Campus and Mowatt Drives.

Driving From Downtown Washington:

• Go north on North Capitol Street (from the Capitol or the 3rd Street Tunnel).
• Take the access side street off North Capitol immediately before the intersection with Rhode Island Avenue (U.S. Route 1).
• Take Rhode Island Avenue north through DC to the Maryland line (about 5 miles).
• Just before you reach downtown College Park, turn left onto Guilford Road.
• Guilford Road takes a right-hand jog before becoming Mowatt Lane (no street sign).
• Continue on Mowatt Lane onto the campus.
• Stay on Mowatt Lane until the traffic circle. Proceed straight through the circle and enter Lot 1 for free parking. (Note: Read signs carefully to avoid being ticketed.)
• The School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation is at the corner of Campus and Mowatt Drives.

Walking From Your Parking Space in Lot 1:

• Walk back to the traffic circle and take a left onto Campus Drive. The School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation Building is the first building on the right. Take the pedestrian bridge across to the second-floor entrance. Once inside, proceed to the end of the corridor and walk downstairs to reach the auditorium.

From the rail/bus station, walk north on Colesville Road. Turn right at Georgia Avenue. Walk a half block and use the pedestrian crossing to cross Georgia to access Ellsworth Drive. Follow Ellsworth through Fenton Street and the Civic Building will be on your right.

By Car

Driving From Downtown Washington:

• Proceed North on 16th Street towards Maryland.
• Merge right onto Alaska Avenue immediately after the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
• Turn left onto Georgia Avenue (MD-97 N) and proceed North.
• Proceed North on Georgia Avenue for approximately 0.7 miles.
• Turn right on Wayne Avenue.
• Turn left on Fenton Street.
• Turn right on Ellsworth Drive.
• Public parking will be available on the left, across the street from the Civic Building.
• Driving From the Beltway (I-495) from the west:
• Take Georgia Avenue (MD-97 S) exit (Exit 31B) towards Silver Spring.
• Proceed South on Georgia Avenue for approximately 1.5 miles.
• Turn left on Wayne Avenue.
• Turn left on Fenton Street.
• Turn right on Ellsworth Drive.
• Public parking will be available on the left, across the street from the Civic Building.

Driving From the Beltway (I-495) from the east:

• Take Colesville Road (US 29) exit (Exit 30) towards Silver Spring.
• Proceed South on Colesville Road for approximately 1.3 miles.
• Turn left on Spring Street.
• Turn right on Ellsworth Drive.
• Public parking will be available on the right, across the street from the Civic Building.
