Architecture, landscape, rain gardens, street furnishings and a diverse mix of workers and residents makes this a quintessential Third Place.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In planning, the third place is the social realm separate from the home and workplace. It provides an inclusive forum for the dialogue and debate crucial for civic engagement and community building. This blog will pursue many of the principles, ideas and examples behind the Montgomery County Planning Department\u2019s programs and initiatives. It is hoped that it will foster greater engagement with all our communities and residents. We cherish our natural assets and work to preserve our agricultural lands and historic resources. To do this while remaining competitive within the Washington, DC region, we must plan all places in a way that is commensurate to these high standards.
