Planning Board and Department Announce July 2017 Events

SILVER SPRING, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Board and Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, are pleased to announce their July 2017 calendar of events. These meetings offer opportunities for the public to engage with the Planning Board and Planning Department staff. Montgomery County Planning Department and Board Events in July 2017

July 6 – There will NOT be a Planning Board meeting on this day since it is a holiday week.

July 13 – The Planning Board will hold its first work sessions on the Draft Design Guidelines for the Bethesda Downtown Sector Plan and Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro Area Minor Master Plan. For the complete meeting agenda, consult the Board’s website. Planning Board agendas are posted 10 days prior to the meeting date.

July 13 –  Clare Lise Kelly, author of Montgomery Modern and an architectural historian with the Planning Department, will speak about the key role of Jewish developers in Montgomery County communities from the 1930s through the post-war era. The event, “Jewish History in Montgomery County,” begins at 7 p.m. at the Davis Library (6400 Democracy Boulevard, Bethesda, MD) and is being presented by the  Jewish Historical Society of Greater Washington in partnership with the library and the Montgomery County Planning Department.

July 20 – In addition to regulatory cases, the Planning Board will review the Biennial Master Plan Monitoring Report for the 2010 White Flint Sector Plan, 2010 Great Seneca Science Corridor Master Plan and 2006 Shady Grove Sector Plan. July 24 – The Planning Board will hold a regular meeting on this Monday to hear several regulatory cases. For more details about this meeting, consult the Planning Board agenda. The agenda for this meeting will posted on July 14.

July 27 – Deadline for submissions to the 2017 Design Excellence Award competition. The entries will be judged by an independent jury of notable professionals in architecture, landscape architecture and urban design. Consult the Design Excellence web site for information about the submission process and members of the jury.

July 27 –This Planning Board meeting is the last before the Board takes a break from August 3 through August 31. The meeting is the last for Planning Board member Marye Wells-Harley, who has completed two four-year terms and is ineligible for reappointment. On the agenda is the second work session on the Draft Design Guidelines for the Bethesda Downtown Sector Plan. A public hearing will also be held for the Energized Public Spaces Functional Master Plan for Parks in Mixed-Use and High Density Residential Areas. Sign up online beginning on July 17 to testify at this hearing.
