Montgomery Planning and Planning Board Announces January 2019 Events

Among the highlights is the first session of the Winter Speaker Series that will provide a regional perspective on comprehensive planning

Montgomery County Planning Board and Planning Department Events in January 2019

 January 3 – The Planning Board will not hold a meeting in observance of the New Year holiday. The Board will reconvene on January 10.

January 10 – The Planning Board will review several preliminary plans for development. For more details, consult the Planning Board meeting agenda, which will be posted online 10 days before the meeting date.

January 16 – Montgomery Planning will launch its 2019 Winter Speaker Series to focus on the General Plan update. The first event, Recent General Plan Updates in the Washington, DC, Region, will examine how several local jurisdictions have recently updated their general plans or are in the process of updating them. A panel of current and former planning officials from Washington, DC, Loudoun County, Virginia, and Howard County, Maryland, will discuss lessons learned from these updates, including community involvement in creating the new plans. The free event is open to the public and will be held at the Planning Department (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD) from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

January 17 – The Planning Board will be briefed on a neighborhood park facility renovation, among other items. For more details, consult the Planning Board meeting agenda, which will be posted online 10 days before the meeting date.

January 22 – The Great Seneca Science Corridor Master Plan Implementation Advisory Committee meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in room 3156 of the Camille Kendall Academic Center (Building III) at the Universities at Shady Grove (9636 Gudelsky Drive, Rockville, MD).

January 24 – The Planning Board will review preliminary plans for development and the County Executive Recommendation for the M-NCPPC Capital Improvements Program for fiscal years 2019 to 2024, among other items. More information is available on the Planning Board meeting agenda, which will be posted online 10 days before the meeting date.

About the Montgomery County Planning Board

The Montgomery County Planning Board oversees the Montgomery County Planning Department and Department of Parks and advises the Montgomery County Council on land use and community planning. The board reviews all plans, development applications and regulatory cases, providing guidelines for the pattern and pace of future development and preserving historic resources throughout the 323,000-acre county. In addition, the board manages the county’s 36,895-acre park system that includes 421 parks. Board members also serve as Commissioners of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, a bi-county agency established in 1927 to protect public land. Current Planning Board members are Chair Casey Anderson, Vice Chair Norman Dreyfuss, Natali Fani-Gonzalez, Gerald Cichy and Tina Patterson.
