Montgomery County Planning Board and Planning Department announce October 2024 calendar of events and meetings

Wheaton, Md. – The Montgomery County Planning Board and the Montgomery County Planning Department, both part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), announced their October 2024 calendar of events and meetings. The public can participate in Planning Board meetings by testifying in-persontestifying virtually, over the phone, or by sending in written comments to the Planning Board on specific Planning Board agenda items to mcp-chair@mncppc-mc.org by 12 noon two business days before the Planning Board meeting. Items received after this date and time will not be included in the record. Contact us for accessibility accommodations

The public may attend Planning Board meetings in-person, watch them live or on-demand, or listen over the phone. View individual agendas, which are usually made public 10 days prior to the start of a meeting. Consult the Development Review Committee (DRC) and Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) websites for their agenda information. For more details, review the list of events below and visit www.montgomeryplanning.org. These events are subject to change. 

October calendar of events and meetings

October 2 –Join Montgomery County Council President Andrew Friedson, Planning Board Chair Artie Harris, and Planning Director Jason Sartori for a listening session on the Attainable Housing Strategies initiative. The meeting will be virtual from 12 to 1:30 p.m. Sign up to attend.

October 3 – The Planning Board will hold its weekly meeting in-person (2425 Reedie Drive, Second Floor Auditorium, Wheaton, MD) and online.

October 8 – The Development Review Committee (DRC) will meet virtually only. The community is invited to attend the meeting online or by watching the DRC live video stream or viewing on-demand. To request an online invitation, email staff. The DRC is an inter-agency task force comprised of representatives from Montgomery Planning, the State Highway Administration, the county departments of Permitting Services, Environmental Protection, and Transportation, and utilities such as WSSC and PEPCO. At these regularly scheduled meetings twice a month, DRC members discuss development applications with the applicants.

October 9 – The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) will hold its meeting in-person at M-NCPPC’s Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, Second Floor Auditorium, Wheaton, MD) with a virtual option available upon request. To testify on an agenda item, sign up no later than 9 a.m. the day before the hearing.

October 10 – The Planning Board will hold its weekly meeting in-person (2425 Reedie Drive, Second Floor Auditorium, Wheaton, MD) and online.

October 15 – Planners for the University Boulevard Corridor Plan will present the preliminary recommendations for the plan at an in-person community meeting (7 to 9 p.m.) at Montgomery Blair High School (51 University Blvd East, Silver Spring, MD). This meeting will focus on the draft recommendations for the Dennis Avenue and I-495 part of the plan area. RSVPs are encouraged but not required. RSVP to attend.

October 17 – The Planning Board will hold its weekly meeting in-person (2425 Reedie Drive, Second Floor Auditorium, Wheaton, MD) and online.

October 17 – The Planning Board’s 2024 Speaker Series continues with its third and final installment, “Practitioner’s Panel: Implementation Successes and Areas of Focus.” The session is free and open to the public and will be held in the M-NCPPC Wheaton Headquarters Second Floor Auditorium from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. It will also be livestreamed on the Planning Board website and made available on-demand. AICP and LA credit eligible. RSVP encouraged.

October 19 – Join Montgomery Planning for the first day of the Damascus Placemaking Festival (1 to 6 p.m.). The event reimagines a section of Main Street in Damascus (9801 Main St, Damascus, MD) as a gathering space for the community. The event is free to attend and will feature local food, entertainment, and activities for all ages.

October 23 – Join the Eastern Silver Spring Communities Plan team for an open-house (7 to 9 p.m.) at Eastern Middle School (300 University Boulevard East, Silver Spring, MD). Planners will answer questions and provide details about the plan and its progress. RSVPs are encouraged, but not required.
