Community Invited to Comment on Bikeway ReactMap and Attend Meetings to Discuss Preliminary Recommendations for Bicycle Master Plan

Bikeway ReactMap

Meetings will be held across the county in June 2017 to discuss the proposed bikeway recommendations and provide an opportunity for the public to provide feedback

SILVER SPRING, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, invites the community to comment on preliminary bikeway recommendations for Montgomery County’s Bicycle Master Plan by accessing the Bikeway ReactMap and attending public meetings being held in June across the county.

The Bikeway ReactMap, posted on the Planning Department’s web site, encourages the public to comment on the Bicycle Master Plan’s preliminary bikeway recommendations. Users can view the map legend, review a brief description of bikeway facility types and add comments about the bikeway recommendations.

Since launching the Bicycle Master Plan in July 2015, planners have looked at ways to implement the newest types of bikeways, such as separated bike lanes and neighborhood greenways, as well as secure bicycle storage facilities at transit stations. Proposed recommendations for the cycling network are based on an evaluation of the varying levels of stress imposed by traffic on cyclists along each roadway in Montgomery County. The aim is to provide a low stress network for bicyclists wherever possible.

Public meetings to review the preliminary bikeway recommendations for the Bicycle Master Plan will be held in June.
